The 20th Hitchin Christmas Tree Festival was a huge success, and we were delighted to welcome around 2,500 visitors to view the fifty beautiful and imaginative trees. We’re grateful to Tim & Stella Farr for judging the trees in five categories, and in addition visitors were invited to vote for their favourite tree.

The Hitchin Christmas Tree Festival takes place at Holy Saviour Church, Radcliffe Road, on Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th December, 12noon to 6.00pm.
Come and see the amazing display of 50 glittering trees, decorated by groups, families and businesses from across the town and beyond. This will be our 20th Festival, and it’s still going strong! Live music will entertain visitors throughout the weekend, and hot and cold refreshments, drinks and mulled wine will be available in the Festival Cafe.
Admission £4 at the door; accompanied children free.
The weekend begins with the Christmas Tree Festival Preview and Concert on Friday 9th December. Doors open at 6.30pm, and the Concert starts at 7.45pm.
This popular event gives a special opportunity for an unhurried and uncrowded look at the 50 freshly decorated trees, before sitting down to enjoy a concert of seasonal music performed by Holy Saviour Church Choir and The Radcliffe Singers, directed by Trevor Hughes.

Come to the Christingle Service in aid of The Children’s Society on Sunday 4th December at 11.15am at Holy Saviour Church.
Everybody will be involved in making their own Christingle during the service and then lighting it. All are welcome!
On Sunday 20 November at 3.00 pm, Holy Saviour Church will host a concert in aid of Save the Children, to raise funds to help relieve the plight of refugee children. The concert will include music by Bernstein, Schubert, Debussy & Mozart, with favourite childhood memories & songs from the shows, interwoven with poetry and prose.
Performed by Lois Murray – Soprano, Trevor Hughes – Keyboard, Gillian Hughes – Clarinet & saxophone & Jane Campion Hoye – spoken word.

The poetry of Christina Rossetti has always been popular – known to many from childhood readings of “Goblin Market” to “A Birthday” and “Remember” and from the words of the ever popular carol “In the Bleak Mid Winter”. This talk, by Dr Serena Trowbridge, will explore Rossetti’s poetry, her life and faith, and the influences which helped to make her an exceptional poet.

Come and join us in the wonderful setting of Bunyan’s Barn at Maydencroft Manor, Gosmore, for an evening of musical entertainment provided by Hitchin Band. The concert takes place on Saturday 10 September 2016 at 7.00 pm.
Hitchin Band is currently celebrating its 150th anniversary, having recently traced its origins back to 1866. The Band has formed the cornerstone of musical culture in and around Hitchin ever since and with recent contest successes is now regarded as one of the leading bands in the London and Southern Counties region.
Hitchin Band and their Musical Director, Graham Chambers, are delighted to be playing at Maydencroft Manor in support of Holy Saviour Church. All proceeds will be applied to the Organ Fund.

On Sunday 17 July at 3pm, The Friends of Holy Saviour Church invite you to join them for another “Talk & Tea” event. Janie Lightfoot will give an illustrated talk on the work of textile conservation, and the wide range of projects conservators encounter. Her studio – Janie Lightfoot Textiles – carried out the conservation of Holy Saviour Church’s beautiful Alleluiah Altar Frontal last year.

On Saturday 7 May at 7pm, The Friends of Holy Saviour Church invite you to a visual, musical and evocative lecture exploring how Paris has inspired countless musicians throughout the centuries. From classical to popular, ethereal to “oh-la-la”, their music conjures up the atmosphere of Parisian boulevards, cabarets, cafés, restaurants and the river Seine.
The talk, by Desmond Colborne, international lecturer and lifetime resident of Paris, will take the form of a walk down musical memory lanes, following in the footsteps of composers and singers. The Promenade will include music by classical composers Mozart, Chopin and Liszt and popular music by Broadway composers such as George Gershwin and Cole Porter as well as songs popularised by musical stars like Edith Piaf, Josephine Baker, Maurice Chevalier, Yves Montand and Charles Aznavour.
Guests will be transported through sight and sounds during this musical promenade, evoking in the words of singer/composer Charles Trenet, “La Romance de Paris”.
