Hymn: Alleluia, sing to Jesus! – Hymns Ancient & Modern New Standard (AMNS) 262

O God the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: we beseech you, leave us not comfortless, but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us and exalt us to the place where our Saviour Christ is gone before, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever,  Amen.

First Reading: Acts 1:6–14

Second Reading: 1 Peter 4:12-14; 5:6-11

Hymn (Gradual):Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire – AMNS 93

1 Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire
and lighten with celestial fire;
thou the anointing Spirit art,
who dost thy sevenfold gifts impart.

2 Thy blessed unction from above
is comfort, life, and fire of love;
enable with perpetual light
the dullness of our mortal sight.

3. Anoint and cheer our soiled face
with the abundance of Thy grace:
keep far our foes, give peace at home;
where Thou art guide no ill can come.

4 Teach us to know the Father, Son,
and thee, of both, to be but one;
that through the ages all along
this may be our endless song:

Praise to thine eternal merit,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Gospel: John 17: 1–11
